Current and former ESRI training developers pair for classes in Bar Harbor

Enrollment is open for classes in beginning June 28

Mannion Geosystems Partners with College of the Atlantic for ArcGIS Training

EDDINGTON, ME - Mannion Geosystems, specialists in ESRI database management and authorized ESRI instructor, announced today a partnership with College of the Atlantic (COA) to provide ArcGIS training at their facility in Bar Harbor, Maine. Concurrently, enrollment opened for the first classes of the summer season, to be held during the week of June 28.

"This is an exciting new relationship for both of our organizations" says Michael Mannion, founder of Mannion Geosystems and instructor for the upcoming classes. "At the same time, it makes available a unique opportunity for ESRI software users across New England and the Maritimes; with our background in ESRI Instructor-Led course development and COA's current involvement with ESRI Virtual Campus course development, students in the region have access to a powerful education resource that rivals any of its kind in North America."

Mannion's statements reference his more than seven year career as a course writer, instructor, and ArcSDE curriculum manager for ESRI headquarters in Redlands, California, prior to forming his own company in late 2003. He also alludes to the upcoming release of the ESRI Virtual Campus course A Collaborative Method for Sustainable Landuse Planning using ArcGIS9 ModelBuilder, co-authored by COA GIS Laboratory Director Gordon Longsworth. This self-study course will be available online this September.

"Making GIS training available to both COA students and people from outside organizations is a mechanism that promotes collaborative partnerships by bringing people together in new ways with new tools" notes Longsworth. "COA students learn by meaningful doing--working on real issues with outside organizations who are focused on finding solutions to the challenges facing them. This approach creates many opportunities for learning, and has been at the heart of the COA GIS program since 1988. The partnership with Mannion Geosystems brings breadth and depth to GIS at a small college, and provides those attending seminars an opportunity to learn about College of the Atlantic's mission and program in Applied Human Ecology."

ESRI training begins this summer with two classes: Introduction to ArcGIS I and Introduction to ArcGIS II. Classes will be held the week of June 28, with the former spanning two days and the latter continuing for three. "We chose these dates to offer students the best of two worlds--they can spend a rigorous week immersed in GIS training with a former ESRI insider, then relax for a long Independence Day weekend, enjoying the festivities in Bar Harbor and Acadia [National Park]. This is among the best times of the year to work and play in Maine."

Students can attend either class individually, or enroll for the pair at a discount. Information about the classes, enrollment, and the Bar Harbor region are available at www.manniongeosystems.com/services/training/schedule.htm
